Bullsh*t – why we do it and how to stop!
Bullsh*t language is endemic, it obscures the truth, saps moral and erodes trust.
This research explored just why and how language reflects and affects the behaviour of organisations and what to do about it.
Our Bullsh*t Analysis Reflection Framework (or B.A.R.F) explains why individuals and organisations, particularly in companies and governments, use bullshit language, such irritating buzzwords, meaningless corporate guff and ‘washing’ of all types. (Spoiler: to distract, manipulate, look good, or because we are lazy and good communication is hard!).
But what to do instead? We worked with Professor Ian McCarthy, whose C.R.A.P. framework helps organisations Comprehend, Recognise, Act and Prevent bullshit.
In our Bullsh*t Prevention Workshops we take organisations through a process of understanding why they use the language they do, what internal and external drivers make that happen and explore how they can change their language to be better understood.
